  1. Something special to look forward to. We get apples throughout the year here, so I regard them as ‘basic’ fruit. Still, I stewed some the other day with raisins and a little brown sugar and they were delicious.

  2. I love that we can get so many new varieties now, but the old-fashioned ones do best for pies, applesauce, and crisps. Since they don’t grow well in Texas, waiting for the new crop is an autumn ritual.

  3. I love apples…I chop one up on my oatmeal in the morning, and often have another one (which a slice of cheese) later in the day. Yummy. Yours look beautiful!

  4. Yummy. Our apple season is almost over. Or might be, but it does seem the growing season has been extended this year. We still have tomatoes coming in.

  5. We lived in apple-knocker country when my son was in first grade. The kids in his class got to taste apple varieties and pick a favorite. He picked Empire. My favorites: Macoun, Cortland, Macintosh.
