Yesterday, on a day that started out snowy but cleared in the afternoon, we celebrated our forty-ninth wedding anniversary.
And, yes, forty-nine years seems like quite an accomplishment. A good one. But to be together with someone for that long is an odd thing. On one hand, our early days seem like they happened long, long ago. On the other hand, it seems like the years have rushed by. Time is funny like that.
To celebrate, we planned a busy day revolving around food, one of my favorite things to do. Since we eat light and healthy most days, we feel that we can splurge occasionally.
First, for lunch, we went to Wei Li restaurant in Auburn, about twenty miles away.
The food is so good, and we got our usual general bean curd, vegetable lo mein, and veggie spring rolls. I could have some right now.
But our plans did not end there. In the late afternoon, we made plans to meet friends at the Hearthside Vine & Tap at the Maine Evergreen Hotel in Augusta, Maine. Two years ago, a friend told me how nice this place was, and finally, we were getting around to checking it out. Sometimes, it can take me a while.
As soon as we walked into the lounge, we were smitten by the cozy yet classy atmosphere. This little corner in the lounge is where Dee, Clif, and I met our friends.
But the restaurant itself is nice, too.
And while the “nosh” menu is small, the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Clif and I shared a flatbread with sauce and cheese. Absolutely delicious. Dee and our friends liked what they had, too.
And the cherry on the sundae, so to speak, was the artwork displayed on every floor down every corridor of the Maine Evergreen Hotel. The artwork ranged from abstract to landscape, with a variety of prices. Something for everyone. Dee, who is crazy about art, bought two pieces. Right now, they are wrapped and in her closet. She plans to hang them this weekend, and when she does, I’ll snap a picture so you can see what she bought.
We all decided that Hearthside Vine & Tap is a great place to meet, and we will be going there regularly.
What a splendid way to celebrate forty-nine years!

Congratulations to you both.
Many thanks!
You two make an adorable couple. And what wonderful celebrations you had! You *should* be celebrating 49 years–congratulations! (I can claim being married for 47 years, but it’s two marriages.)
A-w-w, thanks!
Congratulations! And what a great way to celebrate.
Thanks so much! Such a fun day.
Congratulations! What a fun day!
Many thanks! A finest kind of day.

Thanks so much, Judy! Simple but fun, which, as you know, is how we roll.
Happy anniversary.

Certainly a splendid way to celebrate a day that is an example to us all. Congratulations
Many thanks! As we would say in Maine, it was a finest kind of day.
Congratulations to you both – an anniversary well worth celebrating!
Thanks so much!
Congratulations on 49 years! We just hit 43.
Many thanks! And congratulations to you and your husband.
Chinese food is always the right way to celebrate an occasion!
Clif and I feel exactly the same way.
What lovely and varied celebrations. There’s an art to maintaining relationships, so it’s appropriate that you enjoyed some art on your day, as well as all that good food!
Thanks so much! And what a lovely way of putting it.
Congratulations on achieving 49 years of marriage. That’s just wonderful! And thank you for bringing us with you on your celebratory day. The food, cocktail, and setting look lovely. And (naturally) I really appreciate how the hotel displays and sells the work of local artists. I find these opportunities irresistible. I’m delighted Dee brought home a few pieces! That will be a fine memory of your 49th for all of you.
Thanks so much! I am thinking next year we just might buy a celebratory piece of art for our 50th. A nice way to mark 50 years and to support local art.
Congratulations on 49 years. IT is a life time. Where did the time go?
To celebrate, we planned a busy day revolving around food, one of my favorite things to do.
And mine! Both meals sound delicious and the hotel looks nice and cosy.
Many thanks! A finest kind of time.
Congratulations to the both of you! Looks like fun.
Thanks, Jodie! So much fun.
❤
Happy Anniversary! That is indeed an accomplishment! Your celebrations seem wonderful. I am happy you treated yourself to a beautiful day.
Many, many congratulations to you both. Seems like you celebrated appropriately. I trust you are
already planning something spectacular to mark the BIG FIVE-O next year.
Many thanks! We are giving next year some thought and have come up with a few ideas.
What a great day – Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations Laurie! What an achievement. A big milestone next year, hey?
Last year marked 40 years for me and the M.o.t.h. (my Laurie!!) and we took a trip downn south to a safari glamping adventure. Delicious food along the way is always a great way to enjoy it. That flatbread looks so yummy.
