In Memoriam: A Curious Introvert

Yesterday, I found out that one of my favorite blogging friends—who went by the moniker A Curious Introvert—died after a hard battle with cancer. I don’t remember how long we’d been following each other’s blogs, at least eight years, maybe longer. But over that time, we had become true friends, even though we never had the chance to meet in person. I know that social media can be harmful in many ways, but one of its blessings is the ability— through blogging, among other ways — to find kindred spirits that would never otherwise be found. A Curious Introvert was one of those kindred spirits.

We both loved nature, photography, books, movies, music, and television series, and we had such fun sharing recommendations. She bought my books, and I bought some of her photos. She took the pictures of the owls at the top of the post, and what beauties they are, a sweet way to remember her.

Last night, I reread some of her 2025 summer, autumn, and winter posts, written when she was in the midst of fighting cancer. Often, she felt terrible and was honest about this. But she rejoiced when she had a good day and could go out with her beloved little dog, Harper, who is surely one of the most patient dogs I have ever seen. I laughed when I saw the various costumes Harper wore to celebrate the seasons and different events.

I rediscovered what she had been watching and listening to. We agreed Slow Horses needed to be longer. We were both fans of the actor Ethan Hawke and really liked his quirky television series The Lowdown.

Even though I felt sad that I would never read any new posts, I found it soothing to read what she had written. Through that last fall and winter of her life, she kept taking beautiful pictures, watching movies and television shows, reading, and listening to podcasts. In early September, she was still able to take walks with her niece and their two dogs, Harper and Benny.

Coffee was one of her passions, and she always looked forward to the next great cup she would find at places old and new. Sports were another one of her passions, and as I recall, her little dog was named after Bryce Harper, a baseball player.

Curious Introvert, wherever you might be, I hope the coffee is plentiful and delicious and exactly the way you like it. I hope you have every available streaming service and a Great Library with all the books you could ever want to read.

Farewell, dear blogging friend.

A Curious Introvert introduced me to Max Richter and his soulful “On the Nature of Daylight.” In this Tiny Desk concert, he performs “Daylight” and two other songs. A beautiful way to remember a special blogging friend.

  1. Such a lovely piece you’ve written about a kindred spirit, Laurie. I’m sorry for your loss. I enjoyed her owl photos. Thank you.

  2. Thank you for this update. I have been wondering if she had lost her battle. I found her later posts to be very inspiring, and her photographs were always a joy.

  3. You wrote a beautiful tribute to your blogging friend, Laurie. I never knew her, but wish I had. I hope she does find that Great Library in the Great Beyond, and all the good coffee to enjoy. I am listening to Max Richter’s soulful music now, and it is bringing tears to my eyes Thank you for including that!

  4. Hi Laurie,

Even though I am no longer blogging, I was very sorry to read about A Curious Introvert as I sometimes read her blog along the way.

We (Paul and I) listened to “On the Nature of daylight” and Paul said to thank you again for the links to the Tiny Desk Concerts during the Covid times especially… Paul said it sent him down new pathways, with lots of lovely music.. Max Richter and others Olafur Arnalds …..and some!

Best wishes to you Laurie and family and Judy if you are meeting up with her sometime.

    1. So very sad that A Curious Introvert is gone. She felt like such a good friend.

Tiny desk is such a gem. What a wide variety of music it showcases! Lovely to read how “On the Nature of Daylight” moved you both.

  5. Well done Laurie. I have blogging/writing friends online that I follow closely. I’ve never wished for teleportation before but to hop about and meet some of them would be wonderful as I so enjoy my time online with them. 🙂

    1. Blogging is a little like having pen pals. Amazing how attached you can become to people you’ve never met and probably never will. It’s lovely, actually, how the written word can create such a meaningful connection.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I too have occasionally delved back into the blog of a friend who has passed. It’s nice to reminisce of days gone by and to be able to go back and read old posts.
