And the Leaves Come Tumbling Down

Note: It’s that busy time of year when Clif and I go around to various holiday fairs to sell our books. Therefore, until the new year, I will neither be reading blogs on the weekend nor commenting on those posts. It seems to me that those who post on the weekend also post during the week, which means I will be mostly keeping up with the comings and goings of blogging friends. Also, I am cutting back my own posting to once a week, on Mondays. After the new year, I am planning to resume Thankful Thursday posts.

Oh, Those Leaves

Right now the leaves are falling everywhere at our home by the edge of the woods.

On our front steps,

on the chairs on the patio,

and on the table, too.

A  couple of afternoons each week are devoted to leaf cleaning.

Clif takes out our trusty battery-powered lawn mower that crunches and sucks up the leaves.

Here’s the yard before lawn-mower Clif has done his thing.

Then along comes Clif.

Et Voilà! Progress has been made.

At least for a day or so.

For some silly fun, here are a couple of videos in honor of this delicious, spooky time of year.

First, from Saturday Night Live, the one and only David S. Pumpkins.

Second, “This Is Halloween” from the inimitable Tim Burton and The Nightmare before Christmas.

A happy Halloween to you all!

  1. Have you seen the new movie Saturday Night? It’s about the first episode of SNL, in 1975. It’s a scripted movie, not a doc. It’s fabulous. Super-entertaining from beginning to end.

  2. Fall’s my very favorite time of year, but not so much the cleanup part. I have to admit to enjoying our new apartment life, enjoying all the leaves, but not taking them! I hope you have enjoyable and successful times at the holiday fairs, Laurie.

  3. Lawnmowers are the best way to clean up the yard (and are mulch/compost makers, too)!
Have a spooktacular Halloween and I hope your fall sales fairs are very successful. 🤩

  4. Good luck for the fairs. I’m thinking there may be a market for Clif action figures…Snow Gauge Clif, Leaf Mower Clif…the possibilities are endless😁

  5. It’s raining leaves. We cleaned up last week knowing we were going to have wicked winds over the weekend. We now have a couple of Maples that have shed all their leaves which is a good thing. Our Ryobi battery mower does a good job picking up the leaves here too.

  6. There’s nothing more pleasant than a walk in the woods through fallen leaves; I love the scent and the sound. Getting them off the lawn is reasonable, but even there they’re quite pretty!

  7. These leaves are so beautiful! I love to look at them, smell them, and even rake them, if need be. We mulch some of them during the mowing, so they end up fertilizing the lawn, but if there are too many, they have to be recycled.

Have fun at the upcoming fairs. I hope you will sell many books! 📚

  8. Those of us who live in woods have a lot of clearing up to do at this time of year. May you have good sales at the fairs and a lot of fun in the process. I shall look forward to whatever you find time to write.

  9. We’ll miss you, Laurie, but I hope you have much success with book sales. We’re having a lot of those tumbling leaves, too, thanks to some gusty winds. In fact, it’s so dry right now that we’re under a fire alert. No outdoor burning here for a while until we get rain and the wind dies down. It’s always something, right?

  10. Hey, I hope the book sales go well!

Your garden reminds me of one garden we had where we had 3 horse chestnut trees and a lime tree. Plus we lived next door to a house with a tree lined drive. Every autumn our garden was a carpet of leaves and your picture of mowing up the leaves brought back a lot of memories. Hubby used to do the same then we either burnt them or tried to compost.

  11. I’d love to have all those leaves!! I raked some leaves this past weekend to use as a blanket for my garlic. I could have used more 😉 I hope the fair was successful.
