Clif’s Birthday Treats

This weekend we celebrated Clif’s 72 birthday. It included beer, both at home

and at Maine Beer Company in Freeport, Maine (also the home of L.L. Bean, which some of you might have heard of).

Our son-in-law Mike had recommended going to Maine Beer Company, and he raised a mug in honor of Clif’s birthday.

In addition, there was delectable pizza.

But Clif’s birthday was not all beer and pizza. Before going to Maine Beer Company, Clif, Mike, Shannon, and Dee hiked in Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, also in Freeport. Because of my creaky knees, I stayed home with the dogs and met everyone in Freeport after the hike.

The hike was about four miles, over hill and roots, and here was the view from the trail.

Clif loves Wolfe’s Neck, and that night, at home, after presents and cake, he pronounced the day, with its warm sunny weather, a perfect way to start his 72 trip around the sun.

  5. A perfect birthday by the look of it, except for the unavoidable absence of his nearest and dearest on the walk but some things can not be helped.

  21. Clif looks like he’s enjoying himself! Of course I’m as taken with your pizzas as with his smiles. We have wicked good barbeque here, but a really good pizza can be hard to find.

    As for L.L. Bean, I began looking at their goods once Land’s End started going downhill. I rarely buy anything, but I sure do look.

  22. I always enjoy reading about your families celebrations. You hone in on each other’s favorite things, which is always a special way to honor someone. I’m glad Clif enjoyed a sunny day, family and beer, and pizza that looks delicious. Happy Birthday, Clif.

    After years of mail-ordering L.L. Bean, because we rarely get Down East these days, a new L.L. Bean has opened in Central Mass near us. Yay!
