Yesterday we had snow, and I am happy to report it was a Goldilocks’s storm where we got exactly the right amount—about six inches—and it wasn’t too wet or too heavy. No problem at all for Clif and Little Green, our trusty electric snow thrower.
Outside, it was a world of quiet and white with a touch of color here and there. Midwinter in Maine.
This morning when I got up, the sky had cleared and the temperature had dropped.
Out I went to take a picture of our snug, cozy home.
I hope I’m not being too presumptuous by borrowing a description from my friends across the pond to describe our home. That is, a chocolate box house.
More snow is predicted for Saturday, another seven inches or so. Again, just the right amount of snow.
Clif and Little Green will be ready. And who knows? Maybe snow-gauge Clif will soon make an appearance.

The photos are lovely, but I haven’t a clue what a “chocolate box house” might be. If it involves chocolate, it has to be a good thing!
The house is the chocolate wafer, the snow is the icing. 🙂

Then, here it might be a gingerbread house, all frosted with a thick layer of snow icing. Beautiful pictures, especially the one with a are but of oak leaf!

It looks pretty calm and peaceful.But…..I hope we won’t get any snow this year 😀 We still have abnormal high temperatures for this season.
Sounds as though you just might get your wish.
I am not so sure,in recent years we had soft Winters with no snow, so the plants came out early and then in April we got a few days of severe frosts so a lot of plants and bushes were badly damaged, then shortly after came the high temperatures and was death for several plants. So abnormal is the new normal I’m afraid.
Unfortunately that does seem to be the case. As I am fond of saying, “Weird is the new normal.” Sigh.

It’s wonderful to be so accepting of the cold and snow. I’m sure it helps to be prepared, and living in Maine you have to be. Here in Central Texas, a half-inch of snow is a catastrophe! Schools close, people slide around… it’s crazy. Glad you’re safe and warm (and it’s about 65F and sunny here!)
I am a fifth-generation Mainer. Snow in January seems normal. As does the cold. All depends on where you live and what you are used to.
Your house is beautiful–as is the snow. The house looks like the first house my parents bought, which I lived in until I was 11, I think. It was sturdy and snug.
Our home is very modest, but it is just right for us.
I like small, one level houses that open to the outdoors. I can see why it’s perfect.
Lovely to see another North Country lover’s home! Our snug cottage is sporting a totally refurbished chimney and fireplace. It was built in 1934 by amateurs, apparently. We’re sitting before the fire as I write. Thanks for sharing.
